Compatriot BEBEL GILBERTO is one of the names mentioned abroad when international critics make references to ''new bossa nova'': a ''movement'' that blends bossa nova with electronic music. She's the daughter of João Gilberto, one of the names responsible for creating the bossa nova sound.

2000 - "TANTO TEMPO" (so long; so much time)

"So Nice" - this is a Marcos Valle cover version and is the song that made her become noticed, especially abroad.

2004 - "BEBEL GILBERTO"

Not a single, but a brilliant, warm track: "Simplesmente" (Simply). Don't be put off by the title in Portuguese. It's mainly sung in English.

2007 - "MOMENTO" (Moment)

The title track - "Momento". The video begins with an old footage of her parents and her (as a child).

"Night And Day" - Cole Porter meets Antônio Carlos Jobim! :D Not a single.

2009 - "ALL IN ONE"

"Chica Chica Boom Chic" - This is actually a Carmen Miranda (Brazilian 40's actress) classic song. It's her new single.

"Sun Is Shining" - Another single (a bilingual version of the Bob Marley song).

... Bebel Gilberto: Daughter of Astrud Gilberto and mother of Ellis Regina.

Oh, yes, before I forget, let me add that if any one here likes SOS they have to be :jump: nuts not to adore Basia. :hammer:

Have to echo the love for Bebel Gilberto. I heard "Bananiera" and fell instantly in love.

I have to correct you on this one, ok?

Bebel Gilberto isn't related to Austrud Gilberto. Her mother is called Miúcha (a Brazilian singer).
Astrud married Bebel's father, João Gilberto, in the 60's. They divorced sometime later. João then married Miúcha and Bebel was born.

So that you know, João Gilberto is considered ''the father of bossa nova'': the invention of the bossa nova beat is credited to him.

Elis Regina (another singer) has nothing to do with them. She died at the age of 36 in 1982. She left 3 children, all of them now singers: João Marcelo Bôscoli, Pedro Camargo Mariano and Maria Rita. The latter is a big star here, but I can't stand her. I think she copies her mother way too much for my liking.

Love, LOVE, LOVE Ananda Project!! Fell in love with this band, way back when, after hearing "Cascades of Color". As wonderful as that track is, Chris Brann and Co. were just getting warmed up! I have TONS of Ananda Project stuff on vinyl and CD! AWESOME band, GREAT music, EXCELLENT recommendation! You wanna get blown away?? Listen to "Big Boat"... Close your eyes, let that sick bassline and the beautiful melody carry you away, then focus on the lyrics... Will bring tears to your eyes when you realize what the song is about... DEEPNESS that goes WAY over the head of the average music listener...

Singers and musicians are truly blessed to have almost limitless potential to express themselves. The ability to touch someone's heart with a song is indeed a magnificent gift.

Just went through all the other posts in this topic. I didn't want to be redundant. Got a great band to add to the list: The Cowsills. Mega-talented family band from the 60s comprised of six siblings and their mother. The fictitious Partridge Family band was actually based on The Cowsills. Major hits include "The Rain, The Park and Other Things", "Hair", and "Love American Style" (Yes, the theme song from the hit 1970s show!)... Beautiful harmonies, great instrumentation, classic feel good tunes!

SOS greatest influence can be summed up three musical artists
1. Brasil '66
2. Burt Bacharach
3. Earth Wind and Fire.

But I recently discovered Jazz great Anita O'Day when viewing YouTube clips of the 1958 concert documentary- "Jazz on a Summer's Day". I couldn't think why O'Day seemed so familiar. But then I realized that her fashion sensibilities, as well as vocal styles, is echoed in Corrine. A clip of O'Day's performance is here:
