Official Japanese Website For “Beautiful Mess”

February 25th, 2008

Intrepid forum member Sugar Beat found the Japanese site for the new album. It only has some basic information (all in Japanese) but at least there’s some promotion for it. Take a look here.

“Beautiful Mess” Limited Autographed Promo

February 25th, 2008

SOS has announced that there will be offering a limited signed edition of “Beatiful Mess” for about £10. This in response to the outrageous prices found for imports outside of Japan and it goes directly to SOS without middle men. The only difference is the packaging. It’s in eco-friendly cardboard and it does not come with liner notes. Instead, you’ll get an autograph which I think is a better deal anyway. So go buy it via their MySpace page and get an import on the cheap!

“Something Everyday” Posted On Myspace

February 25th, 2008

Corrine has informed me that there’s a new video posted on their Myspace page though some of you already beat me to it. There’s a higher res version of “Something Everyday” versus the lower res version found on YouTube. Check it out!

Listen To The Full “Beatiful Mess” Track

February 1st, 2008

I should check more often but Wes G. decided to check out Swing Out Sister’s MySpace page and what do ya know, “Beautiful Mess” can be streamed to you in its entirety all 4+ minutes of it!

My take: it’s mellow with a slow, low groove with a hint of hip-hop. It still holds the Swing Out Sister trademark sound with Corinne’s vocals which is indeed sounds more mature compared to past songs (or it could be just the low bitrate on MySpace.) I do love the beat and rhythm and the choice of instruments and samples. The brighter supporting vocals really give it a nice contrast in the chorus and keeps it from being all beat. I think it’s a moderate departure from the last few albums which sounded more from the 60’s and 70’s. I compare it closer to the Living Return in style than of Where Our Love Grows or Somewhere Deep In The Night.

I just read my post that I made in 2006 wanting a sound more like that of the Living Return…I might have gotten my wish. I’m looking forward to what Corinne, Andy and Paul have come up with this time but when am I not?

Don’t go soley by my opinions. Listen to it now and discuss it here!

Swing Out Sister Announces A “Beautiful Mess”

A chance meeting at Manchester’s now legendary Hacienda club brought Andy Connell and Corinne Drewery together. Andy had proved his musical capabilities with Factorys A Certain Ratio, meanwhile Corinne, after graduating from St. Martin’s School of Art in London, found her musical interests had eclipsed her fashion career. Along with ex-Magazine drummer Martin Jackson, they combined their diverse influences to produce demos which were to define the future sound of the band.
